True Delights

February 15th, 2009

The other day I was pleasantly surprised to receive some samples in my mailbox from Foodbuzz and their partnership with Quaker.  Foodbuzz has partnered with a bunch of food bloggers, like me, and occasionally send samples as long as we promise to write a review.  They don’t control what I write, as long as I write something — so I get to write what I want.  Now I have the privilege of writing what I think about these new products called “True Delights” from Quaker.  If you were hoping for a recipe from me, check back soon.  Now, on to the review:

Quaker released these bars in January of 2009 for about $3.49 per box, with only 5 per box.  This seems a little bit on the pricey side for me but they do have a few things going for them.  They are packed with flavor.  The three varieties are:

  1. Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond
  2. Honey Roasted Cashew Mixed Berry
  3. Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut

I  enjoyed the flavor in each of these, but my favorite was Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond.  It seems like they are marketing these as “healthy” with whole grains and 140 calories per serving.  I was a bit disappointed though when I realized these “healthy” treats contained corn syrup.  Perhaps that is offset by the whole grains, but I can hardly call something healthy that contains corn syrup (or sugar) as a main ingredient.  All in all I think I probably wouldn’t buy these things in the store because they are just slightly too expensive.  There are also healthier (and more filling) alternatives out there — like a Clif Bar for a mid-day snack and way better desserts out there!  What I’d like to see is a granola bar like Grandma makes!  Maybe I’ll have to post a recipe for granola bars now! 😉
