Slow Food – Corvallis, Oregon

May 20th, 2008

I have been learning a little bit about what the “Slow Food” (as opposed to fast food) movement is lately. To my surprise Corvallis, Oregon (where I reside) is starting a chapter. Attached is a poster inviting you to the kick-off event for the chapter. The event can also be found on the Slow Food USA event website (Look under June).

OH, man! I love all of the restaurants who are part of the “slow food” movement. I have only one wish…that they had affordable slow food. I avoid fastfood and frequent each of the sponsored restaurants on the ad poster, but I have a dream of getting a plate of tapas for $2. Yeah, I know…cheapskate, right? But, hey! Dreamers can dream!

BoggyWoggy, I agree — restaurants aren’t necessarily the less expensive alternative. Slow food apparently also entails cooking yourself, so even making rice and beans could be considered “slow food.” At least according to my understanding. Tip: Bomb’s away has a $5 lunch special — a great way to save money and have some great local food!

Hey great to find a Corvallisite on Food Buzz. Yeah I think slow food is more about cooking it yourself. And at the rate food prices are going up, we’ll look at the prices from 3 or 4 years ago at spendy places and they will seem cheap
